Rick Greer LUBBOCK-Rick Greer, 57, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. Family and friends will gather for fellowship today, Nov. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd Street. We will celebrate his life on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Ricky Joe was born on May 26, 1955, to Joe Douglas and Nellie Marie in Las Vegas, N.M. Rick graduated from Lubbock-Cooper High School. He also graduated from the Lubbock Fire Department Academy in 1982 and National Fire Academy in 2007. Rick retired from the Lubbock Fire Department following 28 years of service on July 4, 2008, as captain in the Training Academy. He was an original member of the 1984 Lubbock Fire Department Dive Team and captain of the Heavy Rescue Team. Rick was an active member with Southwest Little League since 1999. He served on the SWLL board, coached the Angels, Rangers, and Astros, and was umpire coordinator and secretary of District 2 Umpire's Assoc. He was also active in the Lubbock Youth Football League, coaching the YFL Bears to Super Bowl Championships in 2006 and 2007, and served as a YFL board member. Rick enjoyed tailgating at and attending Texas Tech Red Raider football games, was an original and past board member of the Texas Twister Ski Club, volunteered with Toys for Tots and Children's Home of Lubbock, and enjoyed many other service and adventure related activities. Survivors include his son, Ryan Douglas Greer of Lubbock; mother, Nellie Robinson of Quinlan, Texas; brother, Tim Greer of Kilgore, Texas; and stepmother, Doty Greer Benson of Harlingen, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorial contributions may be sent to the , Lubbock Regional Public Safety Memorial, or Hospice of Lubbock.
