James Ammons

James Ammons POST-James Thomas 'Tooter' Ammons, of Post, died on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 12, 1932, to Thomas Edward and Evelyn (Kee) Ammons here in Post. He attended Post Schools and went to work at the Postex Cotton Mill in 1947. Tooter also worked with his Dad on the hog farm and tended to the mules. He married Margaret Shaw in November 1950. He later married Toni Tijerina on Feb. 3, 1967, here in Post. Over the years Tooter worked two jobs the majority of the time. He worked for Western Auto for many years and, after the mill closed, he went to work for Brandon and Clark. He enjoyed playing golf, dominos, and riding around with his dog Curly. They would go to South Lake and feed the ducks. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lewis Ammons. He is survived by his spouse: Toni Ammons of Post; one daughter: Tonie Marie Ammons of Lubbock; three sons: Jimmy Ammons of Post, Bobby Ammons and wife Karen of Buna, and Ronny Ammons and wife Christy of Sunset; one sister: Elma Mae Doss of Keller; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at the Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Arthur Kelly of Pleasant Home Baptist Church officiating. Cremation will follow and arrangements are under the personal care of Dee and Janet Justice, Justice-Mason Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at Justice-Mason Funeral Home, 301West Main Street, Post, TX, Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m.
