Mary, Christopher, Jennifer and Karen, my thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your families. Jimmy was my engineering mentor through college and grad school and was the chairman of my masters committee - but he was so much more than that! He was my friend and lifelong hero! I am so sorry for your loss - he will be sorely missed! Love to you all, Trish

Mary and family, Meeting Jimmy was like meeting my best friend for life. He was a large man in life but his gentle spirit was larger than life. He will be missed by all of us but heaven is a richer place because of his presence there.

You are in our prayers,

Jim and ReNae Breedon

Got to know Jimmy first as a faculty member at TTU where I had arrived to pursue a Ph.D. in 1982. Got to know him even better through ASCE committee on Globl Principles for Professional Conduct working on the DVD Ethicana which he produced for ACET. He had a good sense of humor and loved a good chuckle. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during these hard times. K. N. Gunalan "Guna" & Duru.

I am deeply saddened today to read of Dr. Smith's passing. He was truly a gentleman among scholars and without question one of my favorite professors at Texas Tech. Dr. Smith was a tireless champion of continuous improvement and personal development. He was at the same time a mentor, a professor of the highest caliber, and a friend. Whatever success in life I might have achieved has on it the unmistakable thumbprint of Dr. Smith. It always will. My deepest sympathies to the family. I will never forget him.

Mary

While you and I never met, I share your loss.

He was a great guy. I am a better man for knowing him. There will never be another. He had an impact on so many lives I was privileged mine was one of them.

I will always remember him. He made it possible for me to have as much fun as I ever have had. And I am deeply appreciative.

It is a funny fate that let our paths cross.
