Al Ewing Jennings LAZBUDDIE-Church service for the Rev. Al Ewing Jennings, 81, of Lazbuddie, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Lazbuddie United Methodist Church, Lazbuddie, with the Rev. Ken Peterson and the Rev. Richard Edwards, D.S., officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, Muleshoe. Rev. Jennings went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, in Lubbock. He was born July 22, 1931, to Finis and Alwilda Jennings in Lazbuddie, Texas. Al attended Lazbuddie School, transferring to Muleshoe High School his junior year, graduating in 1949. He met and married Virginia Powers in 1950. Three months later he enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served for three years. Upon discharge, he returned to the farm at Lazbuddie. He farmed with his dad for three years before surrendering to the call to ministry. He left the farm to attend McMurry College in Abilene and Perkins School of Theology in Dallas. Upon ordination, he served as a Methodist Pastor for 35 years of Churches in Quitaque, Vega, Olton, Abernathy, Shallowater, Crosbyton, and Morton. He retired from the ministry in 1992, returning to Lazbuddie, where he lived until his death. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia; daughter, Linda Johnson and husband Jimmie of Levelland; son, Rex Jennings and wife Beth of Amarillo; sister, Mina Sheets and husband Harry of Farwell; granddaughter, Brittany and husband Matt of Sweetwater; granddaughter, Shawnee Hancock and husband Nick of Frisco; granddaughter, Brandy Jennings of Amarillo; grandson, Cody Jennings of Denver; grandson, Brian Batenhorst and wife Dusty of Shamrock; granddaughter, Brianne of Amarillo; great-granddaughters, Chloe, Mabry, Marly, Emma and Maryn; and nephew, Kayle Watts and wife Denice of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Morris; a son, Johnny; a grandson, Justin; and a niece Cindy. The family suggests memorials be made to the Lazbuddie Methodist Church, PO Box 129, Lazbuddie, TX 79053, or to the First United Methodist Church of Levelland, 1011 Houston Street, Levelland, TX 79336.
