Arlene Tucker SLATON-Funeral Services for Arlene Tucker, 94, of Slaton, will be at the First Baptist Church in Slaton, 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, with Dr. Cleve Kerby officiating. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service. The family will have a visitation Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Englunds. Mrs. Tucker passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. Arlene was born in Denton, Texas, on Sept. 13, 1922, to Bernard and Jimmie (Rowland) Gant. She was a graduate of North Texas Demonstration School in 1938 and later attended Texas Technological College. She returned to Fort Worth and worked for Consolidated Aircraft, which manufactured the B-24 and the Navy's PBY for the World War II effort. Returning to Slaton after the War she married Harold B. Tucker on Aug. 8, 1945, in Slaton. Arlene was a member of First Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, the family rock and caregiver, along with being an accomplished pianist. She enjoyed family, friends and playing bridge. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Harold in 1995. Arlene is survived by her sons, Steve Tucker (Shirley) of Slaton and David Tucker (Janet) of Lubbock; grandchildren, Kelly Lokey and children, Katelyn, Abigail, and Olivia of Lubbock, Jay Tucker (Monica) and children, Tess and Titus of Midland, Matt Tucker (Deborah) and children, Trace, Emma, Savannah, and Ethan of Maricopa, AZ, Meredith Smith (Phil) and daughter, Charlotte of Seattle, WA, Jordan Wheatley (Christiane) and children, Ava, Jake, and Genevieve of Lubbock, Becca Holt (Erik) and son, Jude of Dallas; and niece, Linda Waits (Jimmy) of Abilene. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at the Library of Legacies in Slaton. The family suggests memorials to Slaton's First Baptist Church or the Weekend Snack Sack Program.
