Arthur Lee Daniel EL PASO- Arthur Lee Daniel, husband, father and friend to many, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013. Born Jan. 9, 1951 in Lubbock, Texas, Arthur was a graduate of the College of Pharmacy at UT Austin and worked for the past 30 years as the owner of West Valley Pharmacy in Canutillo, Texas. Over the years, he and his wife Sarah have enjoyed a large and loving network of friends, family, and various pets, thanks to their open-door policy at home, generosity with their time, and Art's enthusiasm for improvisational gourmet cooking. During his time at West Valley Pharmacy, he and the West Valley family, including long time friends and colleagues, Rosy Bonilla and Olga Vella, helped see generations of families through sickness and health. He came to know where to find the best tamales and tortillas in Canutillo, and he was an Upper Valley icon driving his old red Land Cruiser FJ40 with a license plate that read ol' hippie, do-rag on his head, and trusty dog, Bentley, in the passenger seat. Before his knees gave out in middle-age, his adventurous nature took him cycling, hang gliding, and skiing. More recently, he had taken up swimming and brushed off his scuba-diving gear for a few island adventures with Sarah. Art lived a full and busy life, but he still had so much more to do. His family and friends very deeply mourn the loss of this straight-talking, smart, and warmly stubborn man. He is survived by Sarah, his lifelong best friend; daughter, Kiirstin Daniel of Los Angeles, Brea Carlson of Albuquerque, and Tamara Barber of Boston. His five grandchildren will be reminded lovingly of their Umpa for many years to come. A celebration of his life and legend will be held at the Daniel residence in El Paso this Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canutillo Foundation for Education-CAFE, P.O Box 100, Canutillo, TX 79835.
