Lubbock- Beverly Ann (Stone) Powers was born July 13, 1936 in Phoenix, AZ. She died peacefully at her home in Lubbock, TX on July 8, 2018, surrounded by family and friends, 5 days short of her 82nd birthday.

Friends and family will gather for a viewing and visitation on July 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main. Funeral Services will be held at Metropolitan Community Church of Lubbock, 4501 University Ave on July 12th at 2 p.m. Services presided over by Andra Headley. Beverly holds the longest continuous membership at MCC Lubbock, joining in 1980 and being a faithful member since then, serving on the Board of Servants and on the altar guild.

Beverly had no hobbies. Her life was work. She worked at Dunlap's Dept. Store and, most recently, for long stretches at Fleming Foods and U.S. Foods in the accounts payable department. She also worked "post- retirement" for several years at South Plains Rural Health Services in Levelland, TX, finally retiring at age 75.

Beverly was a veteran, serving in the Navy from 1953 to 1956 and was honorably discharged. Beverly's real hobby was giving everyone a hard time, she was ornery, lightning-quick and hilarious. Underneath that she was very softhearted and caring. She was real and no one ever doubted what she thought because she was quick to tell them. She was west-Texas tough and so very loved by so many.

She was raised by Maudie Fortenberry, who precedes her in death. Also preceding her in death is her beloved grandfather, Thomas Fortenberry, his wife Ludie and many members of the Fortenberry family.

Beverly is also preceded in death by her beloved children, Marlon O'dell Barnhill and Sherrie Renee (Powers) Benson. Her former husband Leland "Skeeter" Powers also predeceases her.

She is surrounded by her grandchildren, Amber Renee (Benson) Homer and Dylan Michael Powers, and her great-granddaughter, Piper Paisley Homer. She is also survived by Vivien Fortenberry, Kim Fortenberry- Sisk and many other members of the Fortenberry family.

Beverly is also survived by her life- partner, companion, and friend, Yvonne Barth, and many dear friends.

Pallbearers will be:

Kent McFadden, Daniel Lopez, John Gray, Greg George, John Heagy, and Evan Morton. We are all walking each other home, and we trust she has now crossed over to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord, whom she loved dearly and served faithfully.
