Charlie Elsworth Ray LUBBOCK-Mr. Ray passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Visitation will be Sunday, May 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Graveside services will be in Woodrow in Peaceful Gardens on Monday, May 7, 2012, at 10 a.m. with Brother Ross Spencer officiating under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Mr. Ray was born Oct. 5, 1922, to the late Charlie Franklin Ray and Sally Ray in Gatesville, Texas. Charlie was a longtime resident of Lubbock, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from Reese Air Force Base after 25 years as a civil service employee. Charlie loved and enjoyed his family and home. He was an avid animal lover. Charlie married Montez Akard on Jan. 7, 1955, in Clovis, N.M. They had over 57 happy years together. Survivors include his wife, Montez Ray; a stepson, Ric Akard and his wife Rebecca Akard of Lubbock; one grandson, Chass Akard and his wife Marci Akard of Lubbock; and three great-grandchildren, Christian Akard, Sean Akard and Lauren Akard. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. Those preceding him in death were six brothers and two sisters. The family suggests memorials to the animal shelter or their favorite charities.
