Elesbia Liz L. Garcia LUBBOCK-Elesbia Liz L. Garcia, 76, passed away on Jan. 23, 2013. At her bedside were her husband, her son and his wife, her daughter and her husband, and several of her sisters. She died peacefully at UMC after contending with heart problems. Liz was born March 1, 1936, in Weslaco, Texas. Her parents were Enrique C. and Gregoria Munoz Loya; they predeceased her, as well as one sister, Celia L. Green. Liz is survived by her husband, Rudy Garcia; one son, Andrew Joe Loya (Angelica); one daughter, Lena Kay de los Santos (Louis); and five grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Stella L. Oja (Michael Carl) from Prineville, Ore., Arminda L. Brigman and Gloria L. Richardson, both of Lubbock, Dora L. Milner (Jan) of Tacoma, Wash., Leonor Loya from Paige, Texas, Amparo L. Soukop (David) from Montgomery, Minn., Henry O. Loya and George Edward Loya (Adelina), all of Lubbock, Texas, and Mary Eva Simmons (Gene) from Brownwood, Texas. Retirement was something Liz never did consider; she worked for several years at Lubbock Osteopathic Hospital. She caught the eye of Dr. Max Stettner. When Dr. Stettner built his clinic, he asked Liz to go work for him, which she did for some years. After that, she went to work for Dr. Harlan O. Wright until he retired; she then went to work for Wal-Mart Stores until last Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. Her husband, her children and her siblings thank Wal-Mart Stores, supervisors and staff for the numerous kindnesses and considerations extended to Liz while in their employ. We also acknowledge the great care accorded to her by the medical staff at UMC. Funeral services are to be held at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, 407 North University Avenue, on Saturday, Jan. 26. The family will greet guests starting at 1 p.m. with memorial services following at 2 p.m. Minister Abel Rios officiating.
