Gaye was born on Jan. 12, 1968 in San Antonio and adopted by her loving parents, Donald and Sylvia Preston and three brothers on Jan. 17, 1968. She lived until she was three years old on the family farm in Welch. The family moved to Wolfforth in 1972 and she attended school at Frenship. She was active in 4-H, winning many awards from showing livestock to sewing. She graduated in 1986 from Frenship High School. She began her college career at Angelo State University and then transferred to Texas Tech University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Family Studies Degree. Following college, Gaye attended nursing school and worked as a registered nurse for 20 years. She married the love of her life, Steve Johnson, on May 26, 1990 in Wolfforth. They moved to the San Angelo area in 1996. Gaye was a member of the Harriett Baptist Church and enjoyed travelling, and spending time at the ranch in Goldthwaite. The true joy in her life, however, came from her three boys and being involved with all their activities. Gaye also loved animals. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Steve; three sons, Matthew Johnson, Luke Johnson and Mark Johnson all of Miles; her parents, Donald and Sylvia Preston of Wolfforth and three brothers, Danny Preston and wife Amy of Tahoka, Leslie Preston of Wolfforth, and Curtis Preston and wife Karie of Muleshoe.
