Gerald Jerry Thorpe LUBBOCK-Gerald Thorpe, 66, of Lubbock passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Agape Funeral Chapel. Gerald was born Monday, Jan. 14, 1946, to Virgil Lee and Ivanora (Fuller) Thorpe in San Francisco, Calif. He married Margaret Hyde on July 1, 1967, in Ipswich, England. Gerald served his country, giving 26 years of his life to the United States Air Force. While in the military, he was an Aircraft Crew Chief Mechanic. After retiring from the Air Force, Gerald worked for Lockheed Martin at Reese AFB. He also served as a security officer for Texas Tech, University Medical Center, and Covenant Health Systems, all of Lubbock. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret; a daughter, Angela Thorpe-Szczypien and husband Scott of Vernon, Conn.; a son, James Thorpe and wife Monica of Laredo, Texas; and five grandchildren, Jack, Sarah, Elijah, Michelle and Ian. The family of Gerald Thorpe wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the medical staff of University Medical Center, Lubbock, during his Guillain Barre Syndrome.
