Guy E. Ballew LEVELLAND- Guy E. Ballew, 75, of Levelland passed away suddenly on Monday, April 30th, 2012 at UMC Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, granddad and friend to many. He was a Baptist and a Christian. Guy was born on March 2, 1937, in Emhouse, Texas. He grew up in Sundown then later moved to Levelland where he graduated from High School in 1955. Guy was a member of the Army Reserves and served in the Berlin Crisis. He met and married the love of his life, Genie McClure on January 18th, 1963 in Levelland, Texas. Guy began his life long career in the oilfield at age 14, as a roustabout alongside his father, Earl Ballew. Guy worked at Amoco Production from 1964 to 1994. He started out as a roustabout and ended his 30 year career as a Senior Field Foreman upon retirement. After retirement, he began working with Floyd Sims Pipeline Construction Company as a consultant. Guy was a huge music fan as well as a talented musician. In 1958, he became a founding member with his brother Jesse, of the Group called the Sparkles who were well known throughout West Texas. He was well known and loved by many Lubbock musicians. Guy was a gentle giant. He was very kind hearted and never met a stranger. He was known to many as Gabe, Blue Norther, Pudd and most often Dad. He was an avid golfer and proud member of the Levelland Country Club, where he enjoyed his daily coffee with the morning coffee group and some evenings playing gin rummy with his friends. Guy also loved fishing and cooking. Some of his favorite things were BBQs, fish fries and cooking his famous homemade chicken and dressing for the holidays. Guy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Genie, of Levelland; his daughter, Vicki Winegeart and her husband, John; his son, Jesse Ballew; and his favorite granddaughter, Jamie Leigh Winegeart, as he liked to refer to her, all of Lubbock. He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda Ballew and Sue Hagle and her husband, Jimmy and his brother Roger Ballew all of Grand Prairie, Texas. He leaves behind two sisters-in-Law, Mary Hodges and Sue Wade, both of Levelland, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Frances (Marriott) Ballew and also by his brother, Jesse Ballew. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd from 6 to 8 p.m. at George C. Price Funeral Home in Levelland. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service conducted by Reverend Archie Echols will be held for Guy on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012, 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Levelland with burial following at the City of Levelland Cemetery.
