Jiggs Swann SLATON-Ther on Jiggs Swann passed from this life on June 4, 2012, at Library of Legacies Assisted Living in Slaton, Texas. Jiggs was born on Oct. 3, 1920, in Energy, Comanche County, Texas, to Percell Flynn Pat Swann and Blanche Vick Swann. Jiggs grew up in Wilson, Texas, graduating from Wilson High School. Jiggs married Myra McLaughlin on Dec. 30, 1939, in Elida, N.M. Jiggs and Myra began farming near Wilson, and in 1944, Jiggs answered his country's call by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. From 1944 to 1946, Jiggs' Navy career took him to San Diego, Calif., Gulfport, Miss., Cleveland, Ohio, and the Philippine Islands, where he was stationed at the time WWII ended. In 1946, after his military service, he returned to Wilson and continued farming until his retirement in 1988. Jiggs was active in the Wilson community, serving as president of the Wilson ISD School Board, and past president and charter member of the Wilson Lions Club. In 1955, Jiggs was named the Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year. While farming in Wilson, Jiggs and Myra were members of the First Baptist Church in Wilson and upon retirement and their move to Slaton, they became members of the First Baptist Church of Slaton. Jiggs was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lloyd Bill Swann, Garland Swann and Bobby Swann. Jiggs is survived by his wife of 72 years, Myra; son, Tommy J. Swann and wife Maxine of Lubbock; daughter, Karen Harris and husband Rex of Muleshoe; granddaughters, Kimberly Harris of Dallas, and Stacie Harris of Plano and her fianc , T.J. Marrow; grandsons, Todd Roark and wife, Marcy, and their children, Tryke, R.E., Keenan and Brynly of Lakewood, Colo., and Bradley Roark and wife, Carrie, and their children, Lakota and Asher of Columbia, Mo.; and sister, Betty Blevins of Wilson. There will be a private family committal service with Naval military honors Friday in Green Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, in Slaton's First Baptist Church with Dr. Cleve Kerby officiating under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The family will have visitation at the funeral home today, June 7, 2012, from 6 to 7 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Slaton Senior Citizens Center, 230 W. Lynn, Slaton, Texas, or First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 378, Slaton, TX 79364. The family wishes to give very special thanks to Michelle Craig and Darlene Jones, along with each of the wonderful caregivers at Library of Legacies Assisted Living, who became like members of his family, along with the caregivers with Accolade Hospice.
