Maisie Coon Medford AUGUSTA, GA- Mrs. Maisie Coon Medford, 91, entered into rest on Monday, December 24, 2012 in North Augusta, South Carolina Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, in the Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel in Augusta, Georgia with Reverend Dr. George Robertson officiating. Interment services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas with Reverend Mike Cave officiating, under the direction of the Porter Loring Mortuary of San Antonio. Mrs. Medford was a native of Enid, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University, both in Lubbock, Texas. Upon graduation, she was employed with the Humble Oil Company as a Geologist. She was married in 1947 and devoted a number of years focusing on her roles as a wife and mother before turning to a second career in teaching which spanned 30 years, with the San Antonio Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Medford was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas and a member of the Alamo Chapter of the DAR of San Antonio. Mrs. Medford was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Bruce L. Medford; her parents; and five brothers. She is survived by three daughters, Susan Medford Smith (Stanley Thomas, Jr.) of Augusta, Ga., Mary Ann Medford Beers (John) of Winfield, Kan., and Christine Maisie Medford of New York, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Christopher Thomas Smith, Colin Medford Smith, Susan Chandler Smith, Luke Medford Appling and Mark Drew Appling; four great-grandchildren, Oliver Thomas Smith, Charlotte Allen Smith, Virginia Medford Smith and Caroline Grant Smith; and several nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends following both services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 722 Robinhood Place, San Antonio, TX 78209, the Tamassee DAR School, P.O.
