Rayford Harvey Carter ROUND ROCK- Rayford Harvey Carter, 88, of Round Rock passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. A memorial service celebrating Rayford's life will be held on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at 3 p.m. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown. Interment will be held privately at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville. Rayford was born July 31, 1924 in Ada, Oklahoma to the late Charlie and Julia Tapper Carter. After high school Rayford served his country honorably in the United States Army-Air Corp during WWII. Rayford married his love, Mary Charlene Charlie Hankins on March 7, 1944 in Levelland, Texas. He worked for over 35 years for Womble Oldsmobile in Lubbock before he and his family moved to Round Rock in 1974. Rayford and Charlie were long time members of Central Baptist Church in Round Rock. He continued to work in real estate and also drove the customer service van for the Classic Dealership until his final retirement at the age of 81. Rayford was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Julia Carter; his brother Clarence Carter; his wife of over 65 years, Charlie Carter in Dec. of 2008; his son, Dennis Carter in Feb. of 1992; and his son-in-law, Dean Cowan in Dec. 2003. Rayford is survived by his loving daughters, Renae Carter and Rendi Cowan of Hutto; his sister, Ann Patterson of Tahoka, Texas; his grandchildren, Michele Walker and her husband Jim of Houston, Sarah Engleking and her husband Ricky of Salado, Emily Rodriquez and her husband Marc of Austin, Meagan Rice and her husband Joel of Los Angeles, Calif., and Seth Cowan of Austin; four great-grandchildren, special friends, Archie and Joan Thompson of Georgetown; along with numerous other loving family and friends.
