Sarah Sally Branon Watkins Sarah Margaret Watkins, 88, of Wichita Falls departed this life on January 12, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was a selfless, loving, appreciative and beautiful person. Born to the late Clyde and Ethel Branon in Lamesa, Texas on November 6, 1924, Sally later lived in Lubbock and Wichita Falls. She and her husband, William (Bill) E. Watkins, were married on March 22, 1952 in Lamesa, Texas. Shortly after marriage, Sally and Bill moved to Japan where Bill served in the U.S. Air Force. They soon moved back to the states and lived in various places before settling back in Lamesa to raise their family. Sally graduated from Lamesa High School in 1941. In 1946, she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Women's University. She received her teaching certification from Texas Tech University. Sally taught elementary school for many years and was active in local civic and art organizations. Sally was a '48 Delphian and passionate about art, painting, music, and reading. She entered local art shows with her oil and water color paintings. While living in Lubbock, Sally was an active member of the West Texas Water Color Society. She also volunteered her time to local literacy programs. Sally was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lamesa, the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Lubbock, Texas, and attended First Christian Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Sally is survived by her beloved husband, William Evans Watkins. Her greatest legacy in life was her four children, Karen LaValley of Wichita Falls, Dennis Watkins of Austin, Daniel Watkins of Dallas, and Nancy Watkins of Austin. She was also blessed with a loving son-in-law, James LaValley of Wichita Falls, and a granddaughter, whom she was very proud of, Meredith LaValley who attends The University of Texas at Austin. Sally is also survived by her niece and nephews and many loving friends. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Clyde and Ethel Branon, and her brother, Tom Branon. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church officiated by Dr. David Hartman, on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the church chapel.
