Thelma E. Hammons LUBBOCK-Thelma E. Hammons, 84, went to be with her Lord on Aug. 19, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at 1 p.m. in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Thelma was born on Nov. 4, 1927, in Lone Wolf, Okla., the youngest of eight children, to Leslie and Viola Everhart Wilson. She attended high school in Lone Wolf and married John Hammons on Nov. 4, 1943. In 1949, she and John moved to Carlsbad, N.M. After John's retirement in 1991, they moved to Lubbock. Thelma loved cooking, singing, playing the piano, reading, helping people and giving hugs. She also enjoyed traveling with John. They traveled a large part of the United States, RVing from Michigan to Florida. In 1979, they took an extended vacation to Germany. She was also a member of Raintree Christian Church of Lubbock. She is survived by her husband, John Hammons of the home; two sons, Jerry Hammons of Lubbock and Don Hammons of Portales, N.M.; beloved niece, Jo Atauvich of Lawton, Okla.; four grandchildren, David and Michel Hammons of Austin, Texas, Lacy Hammons of Dallas, Texas, and Stephanie (Brien) McClary of Portales, N.M.; and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Kamryn McClary of Portales, N.M. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Research, 3601 4th Street, MS 8321, Lubbock, TX 79430. Condolences may be offered at
