William Dawson Jr. LUBBOCK-Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of William Bill Herman Dawson Jr. at Monterey Church of Christ in Lubbock at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. Our beloved Bill breathed his last on this earth on Dec. 14, 2012, and began his life in the presence of the God he served. Bill was born in Lubbock to the late William Herman Hammer Dawson and Mary Jon Nickel Dawson. He resided in Slaton until he married his lifelong love, Dorthea Mea Burks Dawson. Bill spent his adult life serving, teaching, leading and mentoring, first at Vandelia Church of Christ, then at Monterey Church of Christ. After retiring from the Texas Department of Transportation, he loved to spend his time at the cabin he built in southern Colorado, playing golf, woodworking, delivering Meals on Wheels, and doing anything where family was present. Bill was preceded in death by both his parents; two brothers, Glyn Dawson and Pip Dawson; and his wife, Dorthea. Family remaining on earth to cherish his memory include a brother, Ted Dawson; sister, Judi Miles; three children, Cyndi Ann DuPont, Gary Alan Dawson and Terri Lyn Bennett, and their spouses; nine grandchildren and their spouses; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested at any of these three locations: Monterey Foundation, Monterey Church of Christ Memorial Garden, or Meals on Wheels.
