Roberta Kelley LUBBOCK-Roberta Kelley, 81, of Muleshoe, Texas passed away on April 20, 2014. Roberta was born on Sept. 30, 1932, in Crockett, Texas, to parents, Joe and Ellen Johnson; Sharecroppers. Roberta was from a family of 10 children; six boys and four girls. She worked as a trusted domestic maid most of her life, in Muleshoe. She also worked in the cotton fields. While working as a domestic she learned many skills that helped her family and others. Roberta was always working, and was an excellent cook and seamstress. She was known for the clothing she made. Collecting patterns and fabric was an enjoyable hobby for her. She made quilts from clothing scraps and give to those in need. Roberta was a long-time member of St. Matthews Baptist Church in Muleshoe where she sang in the choir. She even made choir attire for the Junior Choir. She regularly hosted Sunday lunches. She was affectionately and respectfully known as Mrs. Roberta. (Pronounced Mizz Roberta) She moved to Lubbock in 1978 where she became a member of Community Baptist Church until she went to sleep in death on April 20, 2014. Roberta married Robert Lee Kelley and was married for 58 years; to this union two daughters were born, Erma Kelley and Robbie Kelley-Brewer. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ellen Johnson; and her husband, Robert Lee Kelley. She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughters, Erma Kelley, Robbie Kelley-Brewer and Mae Brown Williams; one sister, Ruby Weatherton; one brother, Winright Johnson; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Celebration of life services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Community Baptist Church. Interment will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held today, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.
