Leroy Martin Schneider SLATON-Leroy Martin Schneider of Slaton, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the age of 70. He was born on June 22, 1943, in Slaton, Texas. He grew up in Lynn County, graduating from Wilson High School in 1962. He farmed and worked part-time for the United States Postal Service as a substitute rural carrier on Route 1, Slaton until 1995, when he became a full-time rural carrier. He was known for his handsome looks and contagious personality, discussing sports of all kinds, but was especially passionate about football, golf, and horse racing. He was compassionate and generous and spent much of his retirement caring for his special cousin, Keith Lane Zatopek, of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Cornelia Verkamp Schneider; and his brother, James H. (Jim) Schneider. He is survived by his sister, Jeanette Schneider Heinrich and her husband Eugene Paul Heinrich of Slaton; seven nieces and nephews; and 16 great-nieces and nephews. His singing of the 12 Days of Christmas will be missed. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 27, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary service at 6:30 in Englunds Chapel in Slaton. A celebration of life mass will be held on Monday, April 28, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Slaton with Msgr. Joe James as celebrant. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.
