Walter Joseph Minchew, Jr. LUBBOCK-Walter Joseph Minchew, Jr. passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014. A private memorial ceremony for his immediate family was held Friday, June 27th. Cremation with confidence is under the direction of Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. You may share your tribute to Walt at www.memorialdesigners.net. Walt was born Oct. 1, 1944, in Rocky Mount, N.C. He grew up in Rocky Mount and graduated from Benvenue High School and attended the University of Maryland. Deciding to follow his lifelong dream to travel the world, Walt joined the Air Force and would spend 30 years serving his country. While stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, N.C., Walt met and married Virginia French, the love of his life. His career would take them all over the world. Everyone who knew Walt remember his quick wit and personality. He loved music, especially classic country and rock and roll, and was often seen dancing to his favorite tunes. But Walt was never happier than when he was on a golf course or with his family. His greatest joys were his daughter, Donna and granddaughter, Rachel. Those left to cherish memories of Walt are his wife and best friend, Ginni; daughter, Donna and husband, Robert Giovannetti of Lubbock, Texas; and granddaughter, Rachel. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte and her husband, Lonnie Shearin and sister, Joann Carpenter of Rocky Mount, N.C.; sister-in-law, Bernadette Cook of Goldsboro, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Edna Minchew. Memorial contributions may be made to Lubbock Meals on Wheels, 2304 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79411.
