Susie Lara LUBBOCK-Funeral mass for Susie Lara, 87 of Lubbock will be at 10 a.m. on Monday July 7, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 102 N. Ave P, with Fr. Martin Pi a officiating. Interment will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. Viewing will take place today, Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels with rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mrs. Lara passed away on July 2, 2014, with her loving family at her side. Susie was born on Oct. 27, 1926, in Kerrville, Texas, to Cipriano and Juanita (Mendez) DeLuna. She married the love of her life, Nicholas Lara on Dec. 23, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas. Their marriage was blessed for 63 years. He passed away on May 16, 2014. Susie was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic church having served as President to the Guadalupanas. She was a past board member of Guadalupe Economic Services, she was also a Cursillista, and assisted in the kitchen as well. She was a certified host for the Kids Caf and was recognized by St. Joseph's Church for her hard work and leadership in 1992. Susie worked at the Costaleria, Quality Inn, and Texas Instruments. She had a passion for flowers, and loved knitting and embroidery. God was the center of her life. She is survived by her five daughters: Mary (Manuel Jr.) Carranza, Janie (Jimmy) Andrade, Diana Margaret Lara, Yolanda Lara, and Josie Lara (Guadalupe Briceno, Jr.), all of Lubbock. Susie is also survived by her brothers, Manuel DeLuna of San Antonio, Richard DeLuna of Houston, Cipriano DeLuna of San Antonio; sisters, Ana Maria Navarrette of San Antonio, and Irma Sepeda of Lubbock. Mrs. Lara also leaves behind nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Andrade, Manuel Carranza Jr., Guadalupe Briceno Jr, Jimmy Andrade Jr., Michael Salinas, and Emmanuel Trevi o Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Susie, Veronica, and Priscilla Lozano. The family members of Susie Lara wish to express their heartfelt thank you to the staff at UMC, The choir of De La Cruz con Amor, and a special thanks to Maria Elena and Destanie Salinas for the Rosary, and to Fr. Pi a and Fr. Ramirez for the special love.
