Mary Lou Ross James LUBBOCK-Mary Lou Ross James, 80, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on July 7, 2014. Mary was born on Dec. 30, 1933, to the parentage of Earl and Vatrice Ross in Waco, Texas. She attended Moore High School of Waco, Texas. Soon after graduating high school she relocated to Lubbock where she met and married Claude Ivory James. She worked and retired from Texas Instruments of Lubbock, Texas. She also worked for the Joiner Family who became her adopted family. She was a member of First Progressive Baptist Church and joined under the pastoral leadership of Homer Avery and remained a member under Pastor Deshun Avery. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude James; four daughters, Sheila James; Rhonda Dial, Doris James Lawson and Shirley Ivory; two sons, Claude James Jr. and Kenneth James; two brothers, Sweet Pea and Earl Ross; one sister, Doris James; and one granddaughter, Shantra James. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Melva James Smith (Ronnie), Virginia Avery (Butch), Berniece Chism, and Latrice Dial; sons, Burnis Johnson, Bernard Lewis, Patrick Lewis, and Curtis Draper; daughter-in-law, Erma Dean Hill; five nieces; three nephews; 38 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at First Progressive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.
