Melva Nelson LUBBOCK-Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Melva Nelson, 68, of Lubbock from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, in Lake Ridge Chapel with burial following in Resthaven Memorial Park. Melva was born on Oct. 8, 1945, to the late Elbert and Ruby (Lee) Bowden in Ballinger. She graduated from Loop High School and on March 9, 1963, she married the love of her life, Billy Nelson in Lubbock. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. The cornerstone of Melva's life was her family, making a home for her husband and daughters, and spending precious time with her beloved grandchildren. Melva is survived by her husband of 51 years, Billy; two daughters, Tanya Cowan and husband Clay of Ropesville, and Pam Conatser and husband Kerry of Wolfforth; five grandchildren, Tyler Cowan, Garrett Cowan, Kassidy Conatser, Kaveri Conatser and Kenzlee Conatser; two brothers, Robert Bowden and wife Mary of Crosby, TX, and Marion Bowden and wife Jeanine of Lubbock.
