Charlene Doris Ward Sims ROPESVILLE-Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of our beloved Charlene Sims, 79, of Ropesville from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, July 25, 2014, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Ropesville with burial following in the Ropesville Cemetery. Charlene went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2014. To send your words of encouragement to Charlene's family visit www.memorialdesigners.net. Charlene was born on Dec. 21, 1934, to Charlie and Ella Mae (Sutherland) Ward in Petersburg. She graduated from Ropes High School and attended Draughan's Business College. Charlene married the love of her life, Jimmy Sims on Jan. 24, 1954, in Ropesville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ropesville and was very active with the Youth Dept. For several years, Charlene volunteered with the Hockley County Senior Citizens Association coordinating meals from Meals on Wheels along with other activities. She enjoyed sewing and above all, she was a devoted wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her father, C.B. Ward. Survivors include her husband, Jimmy; mother, Ella Mae Ward; a daughter, Alisa Collier; a son, Steven Sims and wife, Laura; four grandchildren, Kami Sutton and husband, Randy, Kerri Collier and wife, Elizabeth, Kristin Sims, and Shannon Sims; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and McKenzie; a sister, Sandra Ayers; and a brother, Gerald Ward and wife, Genelle.
