LeRoy Jacob "Tex" Mueller

LeRoy Jacob Tex Mueller SLATON-Funeral services for Leroy Mueller, 95, of Slaton will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, in Grace Lutheran Church with burial following in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. LeRoy was born July 29, 1916, in Yorktown, Texas, to Jacob and Catherine Mueller. He passed from this life May 22, 2012. His family moved to Wilson, Texas, in 1923. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1935. LeRoy then attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colo., on a basketball scholarship. In 1939, he married Frieda Wilke from Southland. They moved to Wisconsin, where he played professional basketball for four years. LeRoy and family moved to Southland in 1951, Sundown in 1957, and Artesia, N.M., in 1964. He retired from the oil supply business in 1981 and returned to Slaton. LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda; grandson, Doyle Roper; great-granddaughter, Caroline Harlan; brother, Burnell Mueller; and sister, Sidonia Wilke. Those who will cherish his memory include his daughters, Nancy Harlan and husband Jerry of Slaton, and Kathryn Roper and husband Gary of Lake Sinclair, Eatonton, Ga.; grandchildren, Troy Roper, Michelle Cheatham and George Harlan; along with nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Alvera Traweek of Slaton. There will be a family visitation today, May 25, 2012, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
