Fred Ella Herndon Shofner LAMESA- Fred Ella (Freddie) Herndon Shofner, 91, of Amarillo, formerly of Lamesa, passed away July 3, 2012. Funeral service will be held Friday, July 6, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Lamesa Church of Christ with Kerry Moore and Jerry Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Freddie was born on February 17, 1921, in Lamesa, to Fred and Mattie Herndon. She was raised in Lamesa and resided in Lamesa for 80 years. She moved to Amarillo in 2002. She married John Clebern Shofner on March 14, 1942, in Lamesa. She and Clebern farmed and operated a cotton gin in Dawson County. He preceded her in death in 1978. Freddie was a great seamstress and wonderful cook. She also enjoyed gardening and doing crafts. While living in Lamesa, she cared for many turtles and let them roam in her backyard. She also had a great love for dogs. Her favorite holiday was Christmas because she loved having her family together, decorating her house, and making Christmas treats for her family. She was a member of the Lamesa Church of Christ. Freddie is survived by her son, Billy and wife, Sharon, of Lamesa; daughter, Ann Shofner of Amarillo; one sister, Deola Cutler of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, Sherry Hay, Kristi Vest, Hunter Shofner, and Courtney Shofner; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Bobby Shofner; daughter-in-law, Belinda Shofner; daughter, Judy Foster; granddaughter, Amy Shofner; three sisters; and one brother. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to: Amy Shofner Memorial Scholarship c/o State National Bank P.O.
