Ulyss Hoot Mowdy LUBBOCK-Ulyss Hoot Mowdy passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Abiding Care in Lubbock, Texas, where he was a resident. Mr. Mowdy had a very rewarding career as a master machinist, master mechanic, commercial diving helmet inventor and builder, and accomplished financial investment analyst. He spent many years of his off time, when not working, with his close friend Gene Whiney in search of various, ever-elusive, storied missing treasures. Hoot also enjoyed fishing, stock market investing, and daily very early morning coffee and discussions with his good friend, Bob Harris. Hoot was loved and will be greatly missed by those he was dear to. Mr. Mowdy is survived by his sister, Opal Jeffcoat; numerous nephews and nieces; and his best friends for the last two years of his life, Phillip DeSautell and Mrs. Petie Lowry. A memorial service for Mr. Mowdy will be held at Lake Ridge Chapel at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012.
