Wilbert Lee DeVaughn Jr. LUBBOCK-Wilbert Lee DeVaughn Jr., 41, was born to Wilbert Lee DeVaughn and Frankie Mae Evans DeVaughn on Feb. 25, 1971. He attended Milam's Training Center, Ballinger Learning Center, and graduated from Monterey High School. Wilbert worked as a volunteer at Mahon Library for almost 15 years, was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in the youth, choir and Sunday school departments, and also actively participated in several Special Olympics events. Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather, R.L. Phillips; one brother, Tony Staples; and one great-nephew. Wilbert leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Jackie Priestly (Willis) and Linda DeVaughn (Dwight); one brother, Ralph DeVaughn; nine nieces; four nephews; seven great-nieces; and 15 great-nephews. Celebration of life services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Bethel A.M.E. Church under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Interment will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 12 to 6 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.
