Oliver Ramsey LUBBOCK- Elbert Oliver Ramsey, Jr., died October 31, 2012, in his home in Lubbock. A memorial service is set for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4600 48th Street, Lubbock. The family will greet friends following the service. Oliver Ramsey was born in Weatherford, Texas, July 28, 1924, to Elbert Oliver Ramsey and Kathleen Colvard Ramsey. He moved with his family to the South Plains in 1937. In 1942, he joined the United States Navy. His dream of becoming a Naval Air Corps pilot was dashed when he contracted rheumatic fever and was discharged. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1947 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started his career with Fish Engineering Corp. in Houston. He then worked for United Oil Well Service in Venezuela as a Service Engineer for three years. He later owned Ramsey Supply Company and installed irrigation pipelines throughout West Texas. He was President of Submatic, Inc. until his retirement. He married Mary Margaret Rothenberg on December 31, 1977. Oliver was a life member of the Soaring Society of America and a founding member of Caprock Soaring Club where he served as President and many years as Treasurer. He was a member of TTU Alumni Association, Red Raider Club, Ranching Heritage Association, Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Tuesday Rounds Dance Club. He was an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church and a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Oliver was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Gerald Ramsey; twin sisters, Gloria Ramsey and Barbara Watson; a son, Kent Ramsey; and step-grandsons, James and Nathan Paxton. Survivors include his wife of 35 years; son, Jay Clark Ramsey of Abilene, Texas; stepson, Louis Frank Rothenberg and wife, Ellen Wheatley, of Merrimack, N.H.; grandson, Jay Clark Ramsey, Jr. of Toledo, Ohio; granddaughter, Kathleen Elizabeth Beth Ramsey of Baytown, Texas; step-grandchildren, Ellen Margaret Rothenberg of Maynard, Mass., and James Walter Rothenberg of Merrimack, N.H.; and step-great-grandson, Elijah Paxton of Toledo, Ohio.
