J.D. Ussery LUBBOCK-Celebration of life services for J.D. Ussery, 82, of Lubbock will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at New Home Baptist Church with Pastor Calvin Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Dec. 21, 2012, at Resthaven Funeral Home. J.D passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, in Lubbock. J.D was born July 4, 1930, in Lubbock, Texas, to the late F.A and Ruby Mae Ussery. He married the late Vona Lou Ussery on Dec. 13, 1956, in Bethel, N.M. He retired from the Lubbock Police Department as a detective for Crime Line. Prior to being a detective, he worked as a blacksmith and trained and raced horses with his father. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vona Lou; grandson, Forest Lee Southard; and brother, Gene Ussery. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sherry Southard and her husband Tommy of Merkel; sons, Roy Ussery and wife Jodi of Corpus Christi, and Jay Ussery and wife Becky of New Home; grandchildren, Derek Ussery, Stacy Southard, Kari Ussery, Chad Ussery, Sarah Ussery and David J. Ussery; sister, Dola Miller; brothers, Henry Ussery, Benny Ussery and Gerald Ussery; and his precious companion, Sadie.
