Billy Ray Martin AMARILLO-Billy Ray Martin, 81, was born Oct. 16, 1931, and died Jan. 9, 2013. The family will hold private services at a later date. Billy was born on Oct. 16, 1931, in McCauley to Arthur and Annie Mae Martin. He graduated from Ropesville High School before marrying Mary Lou Smith on Nov. 24, 1950, in Lovington, N.M. They were members of First Baptist Church of Ropesville. Together they owned Ropes Food Store in Ropesville for over 30 years as well as Martin's Choice Meats in Brownfield. He was then employed with Lowe's Grocery Store in Crosbyton, Matador and Roaring Springs. Billy enjoyed square dancing and was an amateur radio operator. He and Mary Lou moved to Amarillo three years ago. Survivors include wife, Mary Lou Martin of Amarillo; two daughters, Billie Jean Gates and husband James of Channing, and Mary Frances Martin and husband Tandy of Amarillo; sister, Imogene Nance and husband Fred of Waco; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Randall Ray and Jerry Lynn Martin; daughter, Donna Ann Martin; and three sisters, Betty Ozell Rogers, Nance Jane Thefford and Dorothy Mae Martin.
