Edna Ruth Gipson LUBBOCK- Edna Ruth Gipson departed from this earthly life in the wee morning hours of February 2, 2013 at the age of 79 after a courageous battle against cancer. She was welcomed into the place that believers in Jesus know as Paradise. Edna Ruth was born on November 30, 1933 in Soules Chapel located in Upshur County, Texas to Frank and Corene Hill. She grew up on a small farm in the deep piney woods of East Texas. Edna graduated from Harmony High School in Gilmer, Texas, where she lettered in basketball and volleyball. She married Jack R. Gipson in 1952. They had three daughters. She later became a licensed vocational nurse and worked at Methodist Hospital for many years as a floor nurse, and then at St. Mary's Hospital in the outpatient area. Edna is survived by her three daughters, Debbie Adams (Terry), Kathy Holmes (Lane), and Phyllis Chriestenson (Don); four grandsons, Stephen, Michael, Aaron Adams, and Nicholas Holmes; and one granddaughter, Emily Holmes. Her sisters and brothers are Frances Hymer of Rosewood, Evelyn Detwiler, Max Hill, and Charles Hill of Tyler. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two sisters, Nell and Elna. Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers will host a visitation from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2013 at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. A memorial service to celebrate her life will follow at 3 p.m. at Southcrest Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to the building fund at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock, where Edna was a member.
