Leon Vasquez LUBBOCK-Leon Vasquez, 90, of Spur passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at his residence. Leon was born on April 11, 1922, in Bartlett, Texas, to Octaviano and Ignacia (Hernandez) Vasquez. He married Eloise Vargas on Nov. 23, 1940, in Spur, Texas. Leon was a farmer his entire life, having a green thumb, enabling him to grow just about anything. He loved planting and sowing the ground and watching his hard work provide results. After retirement he ministered the word, pastoring five churches. He felt his greatest accomplishment was presenting the ministry to many who never knew the Lord, bringing people to God and his savior, Jesus Christ. He lived life for his family and ministering the word of God. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Eloise Vasquez; children, Leandro Vasquez, Consuelo Garcia, Alfred Vasquez, Cecilia Rios, Juanita Kay Valdez, Guadalupe Romero, Juan Vasquez, Irma Sanchez, Leonard Vasquez, Margie Valerio, Olivia Islas and Norma Lara; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Leonor Casillas; brothers, Santos and Jessie Vasquez; and an infant sister. Prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today, March 1, 2013, in Resthaven Abbey Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Nueva Vision Iglesia Bautista in Ralls with burial to follow in Ralls Cemetery.
