Tomas Mata LUBBOCK- Tomas Mata of Lubbock passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the age 66. He was born in Lubbock on Dec. 21, 1946 to Abelardo and Elvira (Carrasco) Mata, Sr. Tomas was a trucker and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia; father, Abelardo Mata, Sr.; three daughters, Melissa and husband Stephen Williams of Katy, Texas, Chris and husband Rudy Valdez, Jr., and Bridgette and husband J.J. Cruz; two sons, Abel and wife Sally, and Tomas J. Mata; one brother, Juan Mata; three sisters, Emily Garcia, Irene Wilson, and Sheila Cantu all of Lubbock; and 13 grandchildren. Tomas was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Abelardo Mata, Jr.; sister, Mary Huerta; and son, Abraham Mata. Visitation is scheduled 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013 with rosary at 7 p.m. and on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Combest Family Funeral Home. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the animal shelter of your choice.
