Mario Benitez LUBBOCK- Prayer services for Mario Benitez, 61, of Lubbock will be today at 7 p.m. in the Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at Hispana Baptist Church, with Pastor Joe Lopez officiating. Military graveside services will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, under the direction of The Calvillo Funeral Home and Chapel. Mario passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. He was born on Oct. 29, 1952 in Plainview to the late Guillermo Enrique Benitez and Esperanza Franco. He married Lupe Trevino on Sept. 24, 1984 in Lubbock. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, receiving the medals of National Defense Service and Sharpshooter. He worked for Armstrong Mechanical as a duct installer. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Lorainne Benitez, in 1988; and a grandson, Marky Benitez, in 2008. Survivors include his wife, Lupe Benitez of Lubbock; two sons, Mark Benitez and Joe Trevino both of Lubbock; a daughter, Elizabeth Garcia of Lubbock; two brothers, Henry Benitez of Portland, Ore., and Oscar Benitez of Amarillo; a sister, Gloria Trevino of Lubbock; his mother, Esperanza Vela Franco of Ft. Worth; and ten grandchildren.
