Verdell Mayhugh LUBBOCK-Verdell Mayhugh was born on Sept. 5, 1926, in a farmhouse near Hollis, Okla. He left this Earth to be with our Lord on June 4, 2014. Verdell graduated high school in Dobson, Texas, and completed one year of college before joining the navy during WWII, where he was a radioman in Pearl Harbor from 1945 through 1946. Verdell married Daisy Ruth Gregory while on leave on April 17, 1945. Verdell and Ruth moved from farming in the Hollis area to Oklahoma City, where he worked as a milk deliveryman before going to work for Sunshine Biscuits Company. The family moved to Lubbock, Texas, in 1972. He retired at age 61 in 1987 after 34 years of service with Sunshine Biscuits. He was preceded in death by his parents, JC and Alice Mayhugh; one sister, Jalene Davis; his wife, Ruth Gregory; and second wife, Bernadine Bollinger. He is survived by one brother, Athan Mayhugh; two children, Greg Mayhugh and Laura Sageser; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren (hopefully more to come). A visitation with the family in celebration of his life will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock on Saturday, June 7, 2014, from 2 to 6 p.m. Interment of his ashes will be at the Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis, Okla., at a later date. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests donations be made to the Children's Home of Lubbock at P.O Box 2824 Lubbock, TX 79408. Condolences and online guestbook can be found at
