C. C. Con Thomas SLATON-Funeral services for Con Thomas, 89, of Lubbock will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014, in Englunds Chapel with Alan Ehloe officiating. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Con was born July 16, 1925, in Girard, TX. He passed from this life July 18, 2014. He grew up in Girard where he attended school. Con enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1943 during WWII and was stationed at Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa and China. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. After returning home to Lubbock he married Lorene F. Foerster on March 29, 1946. They were married 63 years before her passing. He worked for Piggly Wiggly Grocery as a truck driver for several years. In 1950, he and his family moved to Brownwood where he attended mechanics school for two years. They returned to Lubbock and he went to work for Lubbock Auto. In 1959, he started to work for the Department of the Interior in the Fish & Wildlife Service in Spur, TX, in Dickens County for eight years. He moved back to Lubbock and became Assistant District Supervisor in the federal building. He later became the District Supervisor for the Lubbock District encompassing 67 counties. Con retired in 1990 after 30 years. Con is preceded in death by his wife, Lorene, in 2011; granddaughter, Jessica Riley-King in 2005; parents, S. C. and Ola Thomas; brothers, Ray Thomas and Rudolph Thomas. His survivors include his sons, Jimmy Thomas and wife Karen of Abernathy, and Jerry Hoot Thomas and wife Teresa of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials in Con's name to Texas Boys Ranch, P O Box 5655, Lubbock, TX 79408, to , or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Posey, TX. There will be a family visitation Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
