Mara Neusel Obituary

Mara Dicle Neusel LUBBOCK-Mara Dicle Neusel passed away Friday, Sept. 5, 2014. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A tribute to Mara's life may be found at www.memorialdesigners.net, where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for her family. Mara Dicle was born on May 14, 1964, to G nter and Ayl (Helvacioglu) Neusel in Stuttgart, Germany. Survivors include her parents, G nter and Ayl Neusel; brother, Tibet Caspar Neusel; along with many friends and colleagues. Mara received her diploma in mathematics in 1988, Doctorate in 1992, and venia legendi in 2001, all from the University of G ttingen, Germany. She came to Texas Tech University in the fall of 2002 as an associate professor and was promoted to full professor in 2009. In 2013, Mara co-founded the Young Women in Mathematics organization and obtained a grant from the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement to support the organization. Mara was involved with many committees during her time at Texas Tech University. She also had the opportunity to write manuscripts and books, as well as serve as an editor during her tenure as a professor at TTU. Mara was exceptionally well-known as a speaker presenting speeches at national and international seminars. In 2013, she was appointed as the Director of Graduate Studies in Mathematics.
