Darla Hightower MORTON-Church service for Darla Hightower, age 68, of Morton, Texas, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton with Brent Scoggins officiating. Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery. Darla died March 18, 2015, in Morton. She was born March 11, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, to James Pepe and Thelma Jean (New) Turney. Darla was a long time resident of Morton. She worked for Morton ISD and the Public Library for many years. She was the Morton Woman of the Year in 1985. Darla was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church and the Emily B. Smith Study Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Shirley Turney. Survivors include, a son, James Hightower and his wife, Tina of Lubbock; two daughters, Carrie Kimbrell and her husband, Jeff of Morton, and Mary New of Morton, Texas; three sisters, Kathy Gilliam of Morton, Geneva Turney of Morton, and Barbara Kendrick of Berthoud, CO; two brothers, Freddie Turney of Slaton, Texas, and Larry Turney of Morton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
