Fred Melcher Obituary

Fred H. Melcher SLATON-Funeral services for Fred H. Melcher, 74, of Slaton, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Slaton with Steve Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Southland's Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. The family will have a visitation Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 6 to 7:30 pm at Englunds. Fred passed from this life Friday, July 22, 2016. He was born March 21, 1942, in Slaton, Texas to Jerry F. and Myrtle E. (Bruedigam) Melcher. He graduated from Southland High School and began farming in 1960. Fred moved to Oklahoma to pursue a career as a diesel mechanic in 1968. He returned to farming in 1987 with the passing of his father and has farmed since. Fred married Vicki Benedict in 1992. She preceded him in death in 2001, as well as a son, Freddie Melcher in 2009. Fred was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Slaton. His survivors include his three sons, Kerry and wife Joan of Port Orchard, Wash., Jay and wife Kelley of Lynchburg, Tenn., Rusty and wife Jeannette of Globe, Ariz.; along with 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to their favorite charity or Slaton's Senior Citizens Center.
