Lubbock- Our dear father, Hershel, finished his earthly journey and entered eternity Monday, November 27th at the age of 90. He was born June 8th, 1927 near Cooper, TX to Vinson and Verne Baker. He attended school at Paint Rock. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1946 and served in the US Airforce from 1947 to 1949. He met Florine Wolters and they married Oct. 18th, 1952. He obtained his CDL and began a career of truck driving. He truly was a traveling man and drove from coast to coast. He retired from Furr's Cafeterias in 1990 after 17 years and was awarded "One Million Miles" during his time there. He helped raise four children and was grandfather to eight. In his earlier days, he enjoyed relaxing at Lake Buchanan and playing slots. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Florine, his parents and two siblings. Survivors include his children, Chris Baker, Judy Smyer and husband Rob, Dana Mattox and husband Phillip and Ron Baker and wife Christina. Grandchildren, Drew Baker, Nikki Romo, Tiffany Runnels, Josh Tandy, Andrew O'Dell, Reagan Smyer, Heather Baker and Logan Baker, a brother and two sisters. Private family graveside service is Dec. 1st.
