E. Wagnon Jr. M.D.

Graveside services for William E. Wagnon, Jr., MD, 87, of Lufkin were held Saturday, October 13, 2012 in the Mexia City Cemetery in Mexia, Texas with Reverend Kory Koch officiating. His was an exemplary life of service and devotion to family. Born in Palestine, Texas in 1925 to Eloise and William Eli Wagnon, Sr. Through high school he worked in the family-owned drug store. He enlisted in WWII as an Ensign in the Navy and watched the famous marines raise the 'Stars and Stripes' on Mt. Suribachi in 1945, Iwo Jima. He returned from the war and married Mary Jean, his high school sweetheart, and became a registered pharmacist. He then attended and graduated from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He practiced orthopedic surgery in Waco, Texas for 32 years. He loved his patients and was loved by them. He took care of his wife for many years and they retired to St. John, USVI where they lived for over 10 years and had many local friends. After an extended illness, he recovered and lived in Lufkin until his death. His entire life was devoted to helping others and, prior to his illness, was known for his constant merry whistling and happy demeanor. He will be missed by all who knew him. If we could all emulate him, 'what a wonderful life this would be'. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. William W. and Jane Wagnon, Dr. Jackson D. and Judy Wagnon, all of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Susan and Mike Owen of Austin; grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Amber Wagnon, Catherine Wagnon, Megan and Chris Canada, Will Wagnon, Alexis Wagnon, Samantha Wagnon, Michele Owen and Mariah Owen; great-grandchildren, Pierce Wagnon, Kayleigh Wagnon and Zachary Canada; and brother-in-law, John R. Lynn, MD of Dallas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Wagnon. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, 919 S.
