F.L. "Jack" Davis Jr.

F.L. 'Jack' Davis, Jr. was called home to his heavenly Father on Sunday, November 11, 2012. Services for Mr. Davis, 90, of Lufkin, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Raymond Robbins officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Union Cemetery. Jack was born November 10, 1922 in Ringgold, Texas, the son of the late Clara (Winters) and Floyd Lee Davis. During WWII he served his country in the US Navy. Following the war he held multiple jobs. In 1963 Jack married his wife Ruth, and celebrated 49 wonderful years of marriage before her death in April 2012. Now they are walking the streets of gold together. Jack’s dream was to have a business of his own. In 1967, he opened his first 'Jack’s Tapes & Records' store, and over the course of several years he owned a total of seven different stores. In 1969, Jack and his family moved to Lufkin to open his final store. For many years he was known as 'Mr. Jack' until his retirement in 1988. Jack was a Sunday School Superintendent for The First Congregational Methodist Church of Lufkin, and also served on the Board of Stewards. His love for his Lord and Savior and studying God’s word was unrivaled. Even in his last days he was spreading the gospel to others. At the time of his death he was a member of Carpenter’s Way Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Davis and fiancé Michael Anderson of The Woodlands; son and daughter in-law , Rick and Sharon Davis of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Jordan and Samantha Stoddard of Denver, Colorado, Whitney Stoddard of New York City, Kelly Lee Davison of Taylor Arkansas, Jack Davis Jr. and Kazyo of Amarillo, Texas and Beau Davis of Amarillo Texas, and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Bebe Ruth Davis on April 25th, 2012; sons, Jack Davis Sr. and Steven Davis; grandson, Ryan Stoddard; granddaughter, Kimberly Davis; and brother, Ray Davis. Pallbearers will be Sean Black, David Mott, Mike Anderson, Jordan Stoddard, Keith Kirkendoll, and Randal Davis. Condolences may be offered at www.gipsonfuneralhome.com.
