Jerlean Eastland Henderson

Funeral services for Mrs. Jerlean Eastland Henderson are scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 208 Calvary Street, Lufkin, Texas. lnterment will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Jerlean Henderson was born on December 9, 1931 in Shepherd, Texas. She received her formal education from the Shepherd Independent School District and was a graduate of Dixon High School in Shepherd, Texas. Her education was furthered in Houston, Texas at the Houston Vocational Public School. After receiving her Nursing Certificate in 1965, her early career included her employment at Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas, The Military Hospital in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Polk, Louisiana. She also had been employed by the Lufkin State School as an LVN for fifteen years, from which she retired. She married Mr. I.D. Henderson Jr. on March 2, 1967 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma with the marriage lasting for forty-six years until her demise. Mrs. Henderson was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she served as an usher. She also enjoyed working with the Top Ladies of Distinction, and the Eastern Star organizations. On March 14, 2013, Mrs. Jerlean Eastland Henderson departed this life in Lufkin, Texas. Survivors: Her husband, I.D. Henderson Jr. of Lufkin; daughters, Brenda Simpson of Olathe, Kansas and Gwendolyn Joyce McKinley of Lufkin; sons, Lara Parker of Stockton, California and Bruce Henderson Sr.; a wealth of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Herman Eastland; sisters, Katherine Eastland and Pearlie Sondage (Richard); many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
