Services for Mattie Lee Fleming, 91, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Tyler with Rev. Robert Carter and Tracy Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Fleming passed into the Heavenly presence of God on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at her home in Tyler. She was born September 18, 1923 in Lindale to Council Horatio and Una Mae Starnes Eagerton. She was the youngest of four children and the last survivor of her generation, including cousins. She met and Winston Fleming and they married on July 1, 1939 in Tyler, to this union, three children were born. Mattie was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School class. She graduated from Lindale High School, attended TJC and graduated from the American College of Nursing in Silver Springs, Maryland. She worked for Drs. Windham, Allen and Stephens for 15 years, Dr. Steven Roberts for 8 years and retired from UTHSC after 12 years in the outpatient clinic. Among the many things she enjoyed, some of her favorite were taking care of people, especially the elderly. She loved interior decorating and re-arranging furniture. Her hobbies were needlepoint, sewing, embroidery, flower arrangements, cooking and carrying food to shut-ins. She was a loving sister, wife, mom and "Nannie" and a dear friend to many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winston W. Fleming; brother, Council Eagerton; an infant sister and sister Anita Ruth Eagerton; grandson, Billy Don Patton; great-grandson, Jakob Waddington and great-granddaughter, Nichole Patton Griffin; her special grandmother, Rebecca Jane Eagerton who raised her following the death of her parents. She is survived by her loving family including children, Jane Powell and husband Gene of Longview, Judy Shoffitt and husband Henry of Diboll and Phil Fleming and wife Karen of White Oak; grandchildren, Gayle Kirkland and husband David, Eddie Patton, all of Longview, Donna Jones of Texarkana, Tracy Wells and husband Glenn of Kilgore, Ginger Shults and husband Billy of Lufkin, Chris Fleming and wife Andra Fleming of Burleson; grand-daughters-in-law, Julie Patton of Kilgore and Janet Fleming of Killeen; great-grandchildren, Donald W. Patton and wife Allison, Matt Patton and wife Amanda, Chris Malone and wife Joyce, Paige Malone, Billy Ball and wife Jana, Kris Ball and wife Leslie, Amelia Jones, Kirk Wells, John Wells, Elizabeth Yount, Tracy Brown, Bryson, Brooklyn and Brinley Fleming; great-great-grandchildren, Nathan Ball, Brett and Luke Ball, Charlee Malone, Sara Catherine Patton, Kinley and Bailey Patton and Landon Scroggins; sister-in-law, Gay Eagerton; nephew, Doug Eagerton of Mineola and his two daughters, Wendy and Kari Anna; sisters-in-law, Nan, Lila, Earnestine and Aline and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Chris Fleming, Donald W. Patton, Matt Patton, Kirk Wells, John Wells, Kris Ball and Eddie Patton. Honorary pallbearers will be David Kirkland, Glenn Wells, Doug Eagerton and "Joy Sunday School" of Colonial Hills Baptist Church. Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Tyler.
