Funeral services for Carl R. Barnes, 89, of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Reverend Fred Smith and Brother Jay Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery. Mr. Barnes was born October 31, 1923 in Bryan, Texas to the late Amanda (Carson) and George Barnes. He died Friday, November 30, 2012 in a Lufkin nursing facility. Mr. Barnes was retired from Lufkin Industries following 38 years of service. He was a member and the oldest deacon at Redland Baptist Church. Mr. Barnes serviced his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer. Mr. Barnes had lived in Lufkin most of his life, and had also previously resided in Lumberton, Mississippi. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Idaline Barnes of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Carl Allen and Seiko Barnes of Spanaway, Washington; son-in-law, Jim Culver of Center; granddaughter and husband, Alison and Joshua Bridges of The Woodlands; grandson, Patrick Culver of Fayetteville, Arkansas; great grandchildren, Benjamin Bridges and Lily Bridges of The Woodlands; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marie Barnes Culver; two sisters; and two brothers. Pallbearers will be Gilbert Rice, Ray Brown, Joe Rice, Travis Barnes, Bob Rice, Donnie Mathews, Darwin Grimes and Stevie Barnes. Honorary pallbearer is Arden Jinkins.
