Funeral services for Florine Hopson Miller, 93, of Jasper will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, with burial to follow at Concord Cemetery near Zavalla. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013. Florine went to be with the Lord on Sept. 3, 2013 in Houston, whom she faithfully served for many years. She was born on March 19, 1920, in the Oak Grove Community in San Augustine County. She was the 10th child of 11, born to William Green 'Billy' Hopson and Nancy Ora Mott Hopson. She grew up in the Concord Community near Zavalla and attended school in Concord. As a teenager, Mrs. Miller realized her need of a Savior and made a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in a nearby creek and united with the Concord Baptist Church. She married William Elbert 'Eb' Miller, January 1, 1938 and they were married for 49 years until Eb's passing on March 27, 1987. They were blessed with four sons and a daughter which they reared in Zavalla. The Miller's moved to Jasper in 1983. Mrs. Miller was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and a very active member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church where she served on the Flower Committee and actively ministered in the local nursing homes. Mrs. Miller had many interests including growing flowers, quilting and collecting ceramic shoes and thimbles. She enjoyed traveling with the Senior Adults of the church and visiting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild, whom she referred to as 'her pride and joy' Mrs. Miller's oldest son Billy preceded her in death in November 1997 and great-grandson Christopher Greer in 2008. She leaves to cherish her memory to three sons Welton Miller and wife Marie of Huntington; Hulon Miller and wife Gwen of Zavalla; Freddie Miller and wife Sharon of Jasper; daughter Ella Weaver and husband Carl of Lufkin; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law Sally Hopson of Zavalla; many nieces, nephews, a host of friends and church family and one special friend Elizabeth Thomas. Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Jasper, TX.
