James Ivy Obituary

Funeral services for James Monroe Ivy, 79, of Etoile, will be held Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 10 a.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Bro. James Owen Forrest and Bro. Floyd Slaughter officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery. Brother Ivy was born November 29, 1929, in Baytown, Texas, to Candis Drucilla (McCall) and James Monroe Ivy, Sr. He died Tuesday, February 3, 2009, in a Lufkin nursing facility. Brother Ivy had resided in Etoile since 1987, and had lived in Huntington and Lufkin most of his life. He was a Bivocational BMA Pastor, who also worked for various local businesses to support his ministry and family. Brother Ivy pastored various churches in Angelina County, as well as pastoring Macedonia Baptist Church at Etoile for 19 years. He graduated from Lufkin High School, then received his Associate?s degree at Jacksonville Baptist College in English and Bible, and received his BachelorÕs degree from Baylor University in English. He served his country in the United States Army. Brother Ivy was currently a member of Harmony Odell Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia R. Ivy of Etoile; son, James D. ÒScooterÓ Ivy of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Betty M. and Travis Bundrick of Liberty Hill; granddaughters, Mandi Bundrick of Abilene and April Bundrick of Stephenville; sister, Dorothy Nell Carpenter of Crossett, Arkansas; nephews, James Carpenter of Crossett, Arkansas, Robert Carpenter of Center; and niece, Jan Matteson and husband, Fred, of California. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, S.J. Carpenter. Pallbearers will be Danny Winskie, Bobby King, Truman Hall, John Marshall, Ron Meadows and Tommy Mooney. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Lufkin. Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors.
