John Ross Kay passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 in Tyler, Texas while under the loving care of his son, Brad, Brad's wife Tamara, and their sons. John was born in De Leon, Texas on July 10, 1925. His parents were John Ross Kay and wife Verna Wilds Kay. After graduating from Conroe High School, John joined the Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II on the USS Douglas H. Fox. Upon his return from duty, he attended Baylor University and received his degree in Business Administration in 1949. Following a move to Houston, he met his wife, Grace Rodman, as they both worked for Christie, Mitchell, and Mitchell. They married on November 1, 1958. John went to law school at the University of Houston, and received his law degree in 1961. John and his family came to Lufkin in 1969, where he was employed at Lufkin National Bank. He later opened his law office in Lufkin and continued practicing law until his retirement. He also served as president of the Lufkin Band Boosters and president of the Lufkin Rotary Club. John Ross Kay was a kind and loving man who will be remembered for his quick wit and his verbal dexterity. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest passion was his family and he took great pride in the successes of his children and grandchildren. John Ross Kay is survived by his wife, Grace Kay. He also leaves three children and nine grandchildren: Ross Kay, his wife Beverly, and Ross's children Jonathan, Donovan, Martin, and Rebecca; Janet Roznos, her husband Allen, and Janet's children, Lindsay and Derek; Brad Kay, his wife Tamara, and their children Christian, Andrew, and Peyton. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, 919 S. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904. Reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a , 'In Memory of John Ross Kay.' Condolences may be offered at www.oakleymetcalffuneralhome.com. Services have been placed in the trust of Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home.
